The plan was to visit remote villages in the department of Auverge-Rhône-Alpes region. Three friends from different parts of Europe were reunited in this trip, one from Belgium, one from Paris and other from Italy. The plan was to reunite in Valence and then head towards the countryside from there. The plan was to camp, hike and swim for the next 4 days and the first place we camped was Les Ollières-sur-Eyrieux. We explored the nearby mountains by hiking to the top, it was dense and dry deciduous style. The valley was wide enough, so one could just take a dip now and then to cool themselves off.

After a quick hike, we headed back to a restaurant to eat some fresh food. The food and wine was fabulous. After escaping the scorching sun, we started travelling towards the next village continuing the valley. The next ones were Vogüé, Balazuc, Ruoms. We had to cross a bridge to the village of Vogüé, one can also avoid crossing the bridge and go down a narrow trail, and road to the village as its on the left side of the bridge. But the views from the bridge were fantastic overlooking the river. The village was empty and peaceful. We had a quick breakfast in the town and planned to go to Pont D’arc to do Kayaking.

Kayaking was the most interesting experience in this trip as I was new to this sport and I simply fell in love with it after trying it out in the gorges of Ardeche. We took a 10km route and started in the morning. Out of the 3 rapids, one must be done with caution as there is a huge rock coming out of the gorge and while passing through the rapid, need to watch out. The view from the Kayak into the natural limestone arch was blissful and we went inside some small caves, to try some deep water- soloing. After finishing the Kayaking, we had to drive atop to look the gorge where we kayaked. The view was exhilarating and ended up having lunch in a nearby lavender gardens. (although it was not like the one in Aix-en-Provence, the smell was pleasant though). The next day I went to Marseille from Montelimar to return back home and my friends returned the same day.
