Our plan today was to traverse to Miyar valley from Saichu valley. The shepherds there said it is not possible as there is quite an amount of glacier and only a specific route is used which only the shepherds know. So, there is high possibility of not crossing the pass/ failing.

We took a bus at 7:45 am from the town from Hillu to saichu for packing food. As there were 5 members in the team, Peter and myself went to pack some supplies. I noticed everyone was eating freshly grown organic green peas. Apparently, green peas cultivation is popular around the area. There was no electricity at Tuan, No stores or dhaba. We went to Saichu packed 60 chappatis with side dish and came back walking, as there was no bus to return. By the time we came back it was already 10 am. Quite late to start climbing into the valley.

I hiked till 3600m into Tuan valley and turned back due to a lack of appetite. The route was beautifully green and lovely weather. The trails were clear till 3700m.

Start of the climb

Due to a lack of appetite (rice would have saved me at that time), I felt I needed some rest before proceeding to the pass. Although, the team was proceeding quite fast. So I decided to enjoy the meadows and return to the village. I will come next year for sure and do it. My plan was to stay in Tuan and meet the team tomorrow at Urgos, Miyar hoping that they would have a clear window for passing.

I met a villager who was happy to help me. We had a chat about the hike and the journey. He was happy and cheerful. He gave me fresh milk and tea and told his boy is abroad pursuing education. The villagers hosted me and told me that even some shepherds sleep on the terrace.  The next day morning, I planned to go to Udaipur and then to Miyar valley.

Apparently, I had missed the beautiful pass connecting Miyar valley with the stunning views of Menthosa peak. The full team was not able to proceed, although Peter and Mani climbed till the pass (5260 m) but was not able to descend it to due to glacier and snowfields with crevasses as informed by the shepherds earlier. So, everyone returned back the next day to sync up in Urgos, eventually in Udaipur.
